2017 EXPLORING AUSTRALIND

Well if we have to settle down for a while, there are certainly worse places to be.

As we left Townsville and headed toward our new temporary home, we tried to remember where it was we we were headed to. Knowing we had been through this region not so long ago, we simply couldn't recall Bunbury specifically nor even heard of Australind.

Approximately 8kms north of Bunbury, in the Shire of Harvey, Australind is home to approximately 12,000 people.

Wiki provides the story behind the name....The name Australind is a combination of Australia and India, which was chosen due to the belief that the area could be used for breeding horses for the British Indian Army, as was later done at Cervantes, Northampton and Madura. You can read what happened at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australind,_Western_Australia

It's still early days but a month or so in and we are really enjoying our new environment.

Having spent so long in the desert, we can't get enough of the magical Indian Ocean, endless rivers and forests and quirky little attractions. Not to mention the food, oh dining out has become our compensation for staying put and we are lapping it up.
